In hair conditioners BTMS CA gives users an improved wet comb and leaves hair with noticeable body and spring. Plus , it is perfect for using in leave-in conditioners. BTMS CA 25 leaves excellent detangling properties in hair conditioner products.
When used in creams they resist wash off, leaving a nice after feel on skin.
BTMS CA 25 can also emulsify many silicones (up to 50% in a formulation) and it is an excellent suspending agent.
All natural BTMS 25 is derived from Colza oil, and is a blend of 25% behentrimonium methosulfate in cetearyl
alcohol. The active compound is comprised of a positively charged quaternary ammonium
salt coupled with a fatty carbon chain. The cationic part deposits towards negatively charged
surfaces such as hair, while the long carbon chain imparts a smooth and conditioned
after feel. The second component, cetearyl alcohol, is a nonionic
surfactant used to support the development of the lamellar structure of the formulation. Its inverted conical shape helps with the packing parameter of the quaternary ammonium compound, improving the viscosity of the formula and the
spreadability of the conditioner. In addition, cetearyl alcohol imparts additional
lubricity to the hair, making it a smart conditioning ingredient.
In conditioning systems, BTMS 25 CA can be used in combination with
other cationic surfactants to allow for fine tuning of conditioning properties,
after feel as well as wet and dry combing.
In shampoo systems, BTMS 25 CA is also compatible with non ionic
surfactants. In anionic surfactants, it can react to form electroneutral salts only
poorly soluble in water. To avoid this reaction, an excess of the anionic
compound should be used.
It can also be used as a co-emulsifier with Emulsifying Wax NF, adding its conditioning properties to emulsions
The typical use concentration can be between 1.0 to 5.0% depending on hair type and grade of hair damage
As a quaternary ammonium salt our BTMS 25 CA has excellent
stability over a wide pH range. It differs from tertiary amines in that the cation
persists also in alkaline medium.
Storage instructions The product should be stored under ambient conditions in the original sealed
packaging. Further information on handling,
