FD&C Red No. 40 Aluminum Lake 1/4 Oz

A Vibrant Red Colorant with orange undertone

Batch Certified FD&C RED # 40 Aluminum Lake

This color has been certified at 40% total dye load.

Certified for use in - Food, Drugs & Cosmetics , in amounts consistent with current Good Manufacturing Practice.

In Cosmetics, the color additive can not not be exposed to oxidizing or reducing agents or any other conditions which may affect the integrity of the color. In Drugs & Cosmetics - manufacturers must follow all laws and regulations for colorants. This colorant is approved for many uses, including those intended for use in the area of the eye.

Guidelines: Powder disperses best in oil and oil based products. For dry products, add the needed amount of the colorant powder to the dry ingredients. Incorporate color to formula by adding very small amounts at a time. The colorant can also be used in water based products, by first being dissolved in liquid USP / food grade glycerin.

When making bath bombs, bubble bars or bath salts that will be used in a tub or shower, we recommend using polysorbate 80 in your liquids stage at a typical rate of 1-2%. Aluminum lakes are oil dispersible but not oil soluble or water soluble.

Color: This colorant produces a brilliant color in clear bases, but will cloud or become opaque in most clear bases. A pastel pink color is achieved in white or off white bases.

Color Migration: When compared to FD & C Dyes, most of the lake dyes are less likely to migrate between layers of melt and pour soap. If your soap or other product has layers of colors, like layered soap, over use of the dye may cause colored layers to migrate or “bleeding” between layers. Try different methods and experiment.

Physical Form: Red Powder

Solubility: Insoluble. Dispersible in oil. Try dispersing in glycerin for products used in water systems.

Storage: Keep product away from humidity, in room temperature and in an airtight container always.

Shelf Life: Indefinite if stored properly in a sealed airtight container.

Our Lakes are concentrated - this one, RED No 40, is 40% dye loaded. A little goes a LONG WAY.

to protect hands, use latex or nitrile gloves. Protect the surfaces you are working on, as these colors are very concentrated and will stain counter tops, wood, clothing.

Using too much dye may cause staining while manufacturing and when final product is used.

Always test your final product to insure optimal performance with no staining.

Always keep a retained sample to ensure optimal long term quality and shelf life and for later comparisons
